Stories From My Childhood: Fat Free

You know how sometimes foods are labeled "fat free"? When I was a kid, instead of thinking that phrase meant there was no fat, I thought it meant they weren't charging you for any fat in the food. So if there is 3 grams of fat per serving, the price of the food is discounted the price of 3 grams of fat (whatever that works out to be.) I thought it was some sort of lame marketing ploy when I would see that there was no fat inside. Of course they aren't charging you for the fat in the item; there isn't any. They want you to think you are getting an amazing bargain, but really they are tricking you. The food people were taking the fat out just so they didn't have to give it away for free. The nerve.
