So I promised I would write more about fake Christians. But I figured it would probably be more Christ-like to write about true Christians instead.
The other day I was thinking about the time I was sick with mono, strep and an infection all at the same time. I had been married for less than 2 months. I had only been to my new ward a handful of times. And yet, we were getting meals brought to our house. These people had no clue who I was. All they knew what that I was sick and needed help. Those people to me are true Christians. They weren't doing it for the glory. They weren't doing it because they had to. They weren't doing it because they wanted to show off how great they were because they do service. They were just being genuine, caring people looking out for those in need. It wasn't an "I feel sorry for you act." It wasn't an "I want to look good" or "I want to have service experiences to brag about." It wasn't "I'm relief society president so I have to." It wasn't "I'm wonderful; I do service." It was people caring about people. And I think that is the biggest part of being a true Christian. Caring for others. Being a good person.
There is the debate about faith and works. Works will not get you to heaven. It is your faith that gets you there. Making meals for people, helping people move, etc is not going to get you to heaven. It's the faith. But if you have the faith, if you love God and you neighbors (the two most important commandments) you are going to do things like make meals for people or help others move. You aren't doing it because the act is what is going to get you to heaven. You are doing it because you are a good person and love others and care about people. And that is the type of person I want to be. A true, loving, genuine person.
