Bottles are awesome!

So we've added bottles of breastmilk to Caroline's diet and she is doing super well. We breast feed her until she's too tired to eat anymore and then we give her a bottle with the rest of her feeding in it. And she ends up eating most (if not ALL) of her feedings very consistently. It's such happy making. Soon we'll be ready to try on-demand feedings and if she can do that she can come home!!! YAY!!!!

She's such a little cutie too! We do little mouth exercises before she eats to get her ready for the process and it's so fun to watch her. One of the exercises is where you have her suck on your pinkie to help her get her tongue in the right position for eating. She gets so mad at my pinkie because no milk comes out. It's the funniest thing ever!

She's getting bigger everyday too. She's almost at 5 1/2 pounds - still smaller than most newborns, but that's a pound an a half more than her birth weight. I figure it's gotta be pretty easy for her to gain weight with a feeding tube, but it's still awesome.

We brought her carseat into the hospital yesterday. One thing she has to be able to do before she can go home is spend an hour and a half in her carseat to make sure she is able to get enough oxygen. It's kind of frustrating that Caroline needs all these extra tests before she can come home, but it is really nice to know that she'll be ready to come home when she does. I have a little less to worry about when she does come home because I know she can eat enough, she can handle her carseat, etc. And its nice to be a new mom and have doctors and nurses looking at Caroline daily. She's getting so much more attention than most newborns. I want her home so badly, but its so nice that she is being so well cared for and any questions I have get answered right away.

  1. So glad she's doing well! This time will seem short when you look back on it, but it's gotta be forever right now!
