Stories from my childhood: Mount Vernon

When I was younger - not sure how old - maybe early teens - my family took a vacation out east. One of our stops on this particular trip was to Mount Vernon (George Washington's home). I remember the following conversation from that visit:

Me: If this is George Washington's home, where are all the cherry trees?
My dad: Well once he got away with chopping down the one, he cut down the rest.
Me: Oh, okay.
My mom: No, this is George Washington's adult home.
Me: Naw, I like dad's answer better.
