Baby Update

Had an ultrasound today. Boy are those fun! We even got a DVD made of this one. Little girl is doing really well. At her last ultrasound she was 9 days smaller than she "should have been" based on her due date - at 10 days they change the due date. Today we was only 4 days small. So that is good. And it's good that she is on the smaller side too because of the gestational diabetes. I don't remember what I said in the last post, but the most common complication of gestational diabetes is a large baby (like 10 or more pounds!) They told me today that as long as I keep my blood sugar in the appropriate range that all complications linked to gestational diabetes go away. So that was also good news to hear. The problems only happen when your blood sugar is high consistently.

So....to make sure my blood sugar is appropriate, last week I met with a nurse and a dietitian. The nurse showed me how to poke my finger and test my blood sugar (6 times a day). The dietitian helped us to develop a meal plan to follow that spreads my carb/sugar intake throughout the day and limits the amount total. The even better news: the nurse I met with today said that my numbers look good and that I only need to test my blood sugar 4 times a day now! AND I don't have to have any more extra appointments about the gestational diabetes (as long as my numbers continue to look good and I eat appropriately). So happy day!

Tomorrow we start our prenatal class!! 2 hours every Tuesday night for 4 weeks. I'm super excited! And next week is my 32 week appointment. Time is flying!

Our house is so full of baby stuff. This week's goal is get it all organized. Right now it is just a room with stuff piled in it.

Anyway...that's the baby update.
