Warning: as the title of this post suggests, this post is about potty training. If you don't want to hear about poop, I suggest you skip reading this post.
Caroline has been working on potty training for quite a while now. It's definitely a process. I think she would have been potty trained faster if I had been more willing to take her to the store, etc in underwear instead of pull-ups - but I wasn't brave enough for that for a looong time. She's been doing really great lately. She wears underwear all the time now unless she is sleeping. And she rarely has accidents.
The biggest hurdle has been pooping in the potty. We got her to poop in the potty once a couple months ago. She got a toy as a reward, but we haven't been able to get her to poop in the potty since then. She always waits until she is wearing a diaper and is in her bed for nap or bedtime. Always.
Two nights ago, Ryan finally came up with something that worked. We put a diaper on her and then sat her on the potty. She got to poop in her diaper like she wants to, but she was on the potty and able to get used to how potty pooping works.
Then last night, a couple minutes after putting her to bed, she comes out of her room to tell us she is pooping (like usual). When I go to change her diaper, no poop. She we put her on the potty and....POOP!!! YAY!!!! Caroline pooped on the potty! It was great. That diaper on the potty trick really worked for her. I'm sure this isn't the end of changing Caroline, but this is a huge step and we are excited. Hopefully now that she knows what to expect when pooping on the potty, she'll pick it up quickly.
