I love date nights. With just having one kid and her being a little baby that isn't mobile yet, Ryan and I spend plenty of time together. But it's not always a "date". And that's fine with me - I like just hanging out and watching TV with Ryan - but it's also nice to do something different and fun. Take last weekend for instance - our themed movie night was sooooo fun!!!! Anyway...here are a couple more ideas that I hope to try in the near future. (I'll have to take pictures and blog about them.)
Idea #1: Brownie taste test. I randomly came across this idea on someone's blog. (Also a fun family activity.) Go to the store and buy a few different brands of brownie mixes, bake them and taste each kind to see which you like best. Take leftover brownies to your neighbors (as either part of the date or the next day, etc).
Idea #2: Cheese and "Wine" This one can be as extensive as you want it to be. But cheese, crackers and either sparkling cider or Crystal Light alcohol free mocktails and have a classic (but Mormon approved) wine tasting. On Celebrity Apprentice last weekend the task was all about Crystal Light's new mocktails and it made me think about buying the three flavors and trying them in wine glasses. Buy several types of cheese and several types of crackers (or just one kind of each) and you've got yourself a little party. Be sure to use wine glasses (cheap, plastic ones can be found at Dollar Tree) and maybe even pretend you are in a bar and hit on each other like you see on TV.
Idea #3: Blind Man's Lunch. Ryan used to play a game at lunch time with his mom when he was little. Ryan would close his eyes and his mom would put a part of his lunch in his mouth and Ryan had to guess what it was. I am definitely going to play this with my kids when they are toddlers. But it's also a fun date night activity. Ryan and I have played it at McDonald's for my birthday once. He bought a bunch of food and would feed it to me and I had to guess what it was. But I also want to try it with food from the grocery store. (You could also just use food that is already in your house.) What I like about this idea is that we can go to the store together, but one person stays in the car with Caroline while the other buys the food and then we switch. This way Caroline gets to stay in the car and we don't have to worry about the other person seeing what we bought.
Anyway...that's my date ideas. Now I just have to decide which one will be for this weekend.
Notice how they all involve food - that is our weakness.
