Caroline Update

Caroline is still in the NICU, but she is doing well. We are just waiting on her to figure out the whole eating thing and then she can come home. We finally figured out what her issue with eat was: swallowing. She'd be hungry, show hunger cues, stay awake for a good amount of time, latch, suck, breathe - everything except swallow. We tried a bottle of breastmilk the other night and it didn't help anything. We also are pretty sure we know why she wouldn't swallow - she would spit up and start to choke on it. And since she's my child, one bad experience means never wanting to try again. Lucky for us those, she's really starting to figure things out now! YAY! She's swallowing now and taking in a good amount of her feedings. She is fed about 40 ml every 3 hours and the last three times I've breastfed her, she's had 20, 16 and 13 ml of the 40. And you can really tell the difference too. She's really figuring it all out. I'm optimistic that she's going to be able to come home relatively soon. But I don't want to get my hopes up either cuz the progress (though excellent) could still be slow. But I'm so proud of my little girl. She's gained almost a pound and is eating super well. And she is just so cute. I love my little daughter so much. I'm so excited for her to come home. We are letting her go at her pace, but it's so exciting to see such progress and know that there her homecoming is nigh.
