Dogs are so in tune

Sorry if you don't like dog posts. Give it a couple months and they'll ALL be baby posts.

My dog is a silly little thing. It amazes me the kind of things she picks up on though. Right before bedtime, Ryan and I are usually watching TV. When it's time to go to bed, we turn off the TV and stand up. She immediately knows it is time for bed. It's so strange. It's not like it's the only time we turn of the TV and get off the couch; it's not even the only time after sunset that that happens.

The other funny thing about bedtime is that when she knows it's time for bed, she watches us until she knows where she's going to get to sleep. Most nights she is in her room, but on weekends we will often let her stay in our room with us - which she loves. She'll go down the hallway and stand between her room and our room and look back and forth from us to her room to our room until we tell her (verbally I might add) where she gets to go. And somehow, if it's the weekend and we won't let her stay in our room, she gets this really confused look on her face and takes her dear sweet time getting into her room.

Anytime we put our shoes on, Lily is alert as well. If she has been standing by the door when we put our shoes on, she instantly gets all excited because she knows we will be taking her outside. Other times when we get our shoes on, she is watching us getting ready to run to her room because that is where she goes when we leave the house. It's so cute how fast she'll run to her room too. (Sometimes Ryan will give her treats. She BOLTS to her room just for the treat even though she knows it means getting stuck in her room for a while. I rarely give her treats for going to her room, but I guess I give them to her often enough that she runs to her room for me too.)

Sometime else that is cute is naps. When I am napping - specifically naps in our bed (as opposed to the couch) Lily will always nap with me. She can tell when I am going to the bedroom for a nap (as opposed to going there for a different reason) and beats me to the bed. And you know that stage of waking up where you aren't asleep anymore but you aren't ready to get up. Lily can tell the difference between that and when I am awake and actually getting up. I'll open my eyes and she'll jump up ready to play knowing nap time is over. If I open my eyes just because I'm awake but not because I'm getting up, she looks at me and then continues to lie on the bed. It's so weird how she can tell.

She's also very good at telling when I'm sad, happy, mad, etc.

I bet most (if not all dogs) are like this too. But since this is my first dog, it's so neat for me to experience her intelligence. Dogs have such remarkable emotional skills.

Oh, one more thing that is just funny. Ryan and I will talk for Lily. We'll have whole conversations with her. Sometimes, Lily will say something rude or a little off color and we'll say in response "Lily!!!" Lily will then look at us with the sweetest look on her face because she has NO CLUE why we are scolding her. It's so funny.

Anyway...long post...all about the dog...hope I didn't bore your to death.
